Concert in Hengelo: never again

Yesterday I went to the first concert of the new tour of the rhythm kings. They played in the rabo theater in Hengelo. Some reviews of the concert in Dutch can be found here and here. I don’t necessarily agree with everything that was written… for example, not everybody came “just for Bill Wyman”.

The concert was absolutely marvelous, despite the fact that the sound engineer managed to mess up the sound of several songs completely. It was hard to hear/understand the lyrics in some songs (especially in the 1st set), when Albert Lee gave a solo then the volume of Terry Taylor’s guitar would go up and so on. Quite annoying.

All in all I had a blast, though. The band was in great shape. Sure, there were some mistakes as this was the first gig of the new tour. Who cares! I really liked the fact that they played a lot of stuff from Albert Lee’s last album (I saw Albert with Hester in The Hague last year) such as the Everly Brothers’ classic I’ll do my crying in the rain. Of course they played a lot of Rhythm Kings classics such as Tear it up and Melody. Good show!
