As of today, our weblog has a new layout. I thought the old one was getting rather boring, especially the colors that were used. I found a really nice new theme with fresh colors that we’ll use for now. I’ve also added a section in the sidebar which shows my recommended news items (this is actually a plugin for GoogleReader).
Good news! as of this week I have a room for 2 nights per week in Rotterdam, just behind city hall and close to ‘de meent’ (pictures wil follow shortly). Can’t think of a better location to be honest. I’ll spend 2 nights there to avoid going back and forth from Deventer which turns out to be quite stressfull. This ought to make life somewhat easier for both Eva and me: I’ll avoid travell and Eva will be able to get into a more relaxed routine.
Yesterday we all went to IKEA to get some furniture for the room. Since I won’t be living there full-time we tried to pay due attention to pricing and still get nice stuff for my room. All in all I think we did a good job, we got a bed, cupboard, a really nice desk, curtains and some lamps for a fairly good price. These things always tend to cost more than we can affort (especially when I’m shopping, I tend to have an expensive taste) but this time we managed to avoid disaster. Yay 
Things will be deliverd on September 2. I also have to teach that day in Utrecht but thankfully Jos will help out if necessary (thanks buddy, owe you one!).
Yesterday evening I almost found perfect happiness. I was sitting out in the garden with our round iron stove. I had a pretty good fire going with some old waste from our garden and plenty of wood that we bought elsewhere. I also had a really nice whisky (Bruichladdich 3d3) some nuts, just enough light to read from a candel and a great book bridge. The only thing missing was Eva, who was out to watch a movie at Annemarie’s. Oh well, next time.
Finally some cycling news: today I made another trip crossing the Holterberg. I made it all the way without having to pause half way. Unfortunately I had some headwind on the way back which kept my average rather low… Better luck next time. One of these weeks I want to attempt biking all the way to Tilburg!
We haven’t been online much since our pc died a few days ago. Of course there’s the laptop(s) but we’ve had plenty on our mind. Anyway, here’s a short update.
Last weekend we had a really nice barbeque in the street with plenty of neighbors. There were about 15 adults and a bunch of kids running around. We got to block the street (city permit! yay!) and were really lucky with the weather. We had some drizzle in the morning, and it didn’t start raining again until midnight. The next day (sunday) it was rain throughout! lucky us. On sunday we took koen to a “knight’s boat” in Deventer harbour. Basically it’s an old boat with a semi-castle built on top. The tour on the boat was fun, albeit a bit short. Afterwards we had icecream and drinks…
At work things have been pretty hectic. I’m not going to post all details, but it’s been rough. The good news, though, is that I may be able to rent a room in down town Rotterdam for two nights per week soon. This will surely impact our family (more planning on who does what and when) and finances (time to sit down and take a close look at things again) but we’ll survive.
