Today it finally happened: I went biking with EricS and ErikP. We were supposed to start at 09.30 in Ede so I had to take an early train. No big deal. The estimated route was 60km, which is a normal roundtrip for me. However, some climbs were included and as Eri[ck] both drive roadbikes I suspected a day of hard work…
Luckily Erik was somewhat out of shape… This became quite apparent on one of the first climbs where I was able to speed past him. Eric, however, was in top shape (having spent a few weeks in Belgium with his bike for training). No chance of staying even near him. We drove from Ede to Otterlo, then across the open field towards the posbank. We took the easy approach (which made it doable for me, not used to much climbing) and drove towards Arnhem from there. We made two short pitstops (one for applepie as we were hungry). From Arnhem we took the fastest route back to Ede.
For me this was a great workout. It was my longest roundtrip so far (approx 75km) at a fairly high speed for me at least (around 26/27 km/h). Looking forward to biking again with these guys. Hopefully next time I’ll be driving a road bike also so I can actually compete with ‘m ![]()
(If you want to know more, keep an eye on Eric’s blog. I suspect he’ll write something as well)
