Yesterday I played the last round in the pairs competition of our district with Tom. In my opinion we didn’t play great but managed to score well anyway. 59% was more than enough to stay ahead of the field so we ended up being nr 1 in the competition! Yay, promotion to the 1st class! And that with a relatively simple system:
- all openings at 1 level: 4card
- Multi
- Raptor 1NT overcall
- Unusual 2NT and Michaels cue
- Lebensohl
- DONT
- solid agreements on doubles and cues, leads and signals
This worked wonders for us. I’m still convinced that any system can score well, as long as both partners feel comfortable playing it.
Either way… after collecting our prise (a nice pen) and having some drinks at the bar we went to a nice restaurant (vier jaargetijden) in downtown Deventer with a group of 10. Wonderful dinner, great drinks, and afterwards some more beer at Paul’s place. All in all it was a great day!
