Today I sat outside in the garden until 20:30 for the first time this year, yay! Of course I had a small fire to help me stay warm but I sat outside none the less :-) Must ‘ve been my lucky day as a lot of interesting things happened. The short list: went to the hairdresser with Koen (he had red gel and I had blue, even the the pictures hardly show it):

koen with red hair Bas with blue (?) hair

Koen also went to his first birthday party all by himself and had a wonderful time. When he came back Eva washed his hair getting rid of the red gel… We had fish (“schol”, also a first this year) for dinner and I got to sit outside reading.

I read the first chapter of the class I’m taking on technology and culture. I must say that this chapter formed a bit of a shock: coming from computer science I’m used to a lot of definitions and axiomatic theory. This chapter started out saying: we, as a community, are still squabbling about definitions and terminology. Great! Now I’ll be up all night wondering about definitions of “culture” and “technology”. Well, perhaps Eva ‘ll also read the study material / do the assignments with me… that ‘ll help :) I’ll at least have someone to discuss matters with. I’ll bug the blog-readers some more with questions / topics to discuss soon.

Last weekend, we celebrated my (Eva’s) birthday. The birthday itself was on friday, but that day was spent just working. We did have my mother and sister over, but the rest of the family and friends came by on saturday.

The day didnt start out very smooth. Both Bas and I seemed to have picked up a rather nasty mood somewhere during the night and neither of us was looking forward to doing all the groceries and getting the house ready. But Koen cheered us both up and around noon the clouds seemed to have mostly cleared… The first visitors arrived at 1.30 and after that it was a full house untill about 6. There were 5 kids under 4 and about 15 adults, so it was nice and crowded. Luckily it was a rather nice day so most people walked outside every now and then for some fresh air.

Bas made a great chicken soup and after eating that, we sent people along. We quickly got the house back in order and then crashed on the couch…

Sunday we mostly just relaxed. Bas slept in really late and after that we went into town for some errands, and we had a nice (late) lunch in a great diner in the middle of the park. After that, Bas went of to visit a friend and Koen and I walked around the park, looking at all the animals.

Quite a good weekend, and with beautifull weather on sunday! And of course, everybody: thanks for all the cards, flowers and presents!

This blogpost is a bit late… but: better late then never!

Last week Koen spent a couple of days at Hans & Lucie (pictures on our photo site). He had a swell time visiting the ZOO and doing all sort of interesting things. We knew in advance that they’d spoil him rotten but that’s part of growing up I’m sure :) The most important thing is that he had a good time.

With Koen gone, Eva and I used the opportunity to spend the night in a nice bed-and-breakfast in Nijmegen to celelbrate that it’s 10 years ago since we met face to face for the very first time. We had a nice dinner at Valdin, the resteaurant where I also had a party after my PhD defense. Food was relatively o.k. but we had the misfortune that we were sitting next to a rather large (and loud) group. Wonderful evening none the less, especially since we watched The Notebook on my notebook in bed after dinner :-)

The rest of the weekend was rather slow… On Sunday Ton & Debbie visited us with Olivier. We should have done some work on the attic, but were really not in the mood. We’ll pick that up soon, though.

That’s all for now, will post more soon after Eva’s party this weekend!
